Our Honey

Find out how the bees make the honey, how we process it and have a look at potential health benefits of it!

How the bees make honey:

1) The bee collects nectar from flowers

2) The bee stores the nectar in a stomach specially designed for honey - the honey stomach

3) Enzymes in the honey stomach break down the nectar into simpler sugars

4) After flying back to the hive, the forager bee passes on the nectar to a house bee

5) The nectar is deposited into the cells in the honeycomb

6) The bee fans its wings to reduce the water content in the honey

7) Once enough water is out and the honey is the correct consistency, the bee will seal the cell with a wax topping

How we process the honey:

1) Take the frames out of the hive

2) Shake the bees off the frames

3) Take all the frames away

4) Take the capping off so the honey can flow out

5) Put the frames into a spinner, and spin so the honey flows out of the frame

6) Pour the honey into a food grade bucket

7) Double sieve the honey

8) Put the honey into sterilised jars

9) Weigh the jar

10) Put the lid and label on

11) Ready for sale!
